Education

Driven by a desire to share and to see empowerment in others, I became a teacher at Nipissing University after completing a geography and history undergrad. By 2019, this institutional learning culminated in a Master of Professional Education, Curriculum and Pedagogy at Western. I am informed and stimulated by John Hattie's insights.

I continue to be inspired by the educational moments humans share; our teachers are everywhere, sometimes a grandparent or an elder like Charlie Bolt (inset iglu photo); and sometimes it's a captain of an icebreaker in the Arctic who took the time to teach a teenager how to use a sextant so that he could find Hawaii with his friend Dale Gann, a watch, and a keen interest in our moon, sun, planets and stars.

I strive to walk gently upon this earth we share, and strive to live a meaningful life while working in the service of others.

My educational philosophy is centred around nurturing and inspiring students to develop their innate curiosity, creativity, compassion, and collaboration while becoming healthy, resilient people with proud identities.

As an educator, I believe in listening meticulously to student dreams, goals, and fears, especially those of potential graduates. I am incredibly proud of their success and perseverance as graduates have overcome personal challenges and systemic barriers. I am very proficient at and enjoy BC's student database MyEd. Side note! Here are two ways to know when  requirements for graduation have been met (it is important that these are from the Ministry of Education or MyEd): Transcript of Grades or the Unofficial Transcript of Grades.
